“What do you think you’re doing, Dave?” This iconic line from 2001: A Space Odyssey is spoken by one of the earliest on-screen concepts of artificial intelligence, HAL. In the movie, HAL takes over the spaceship and turns on the crew, making this also one of the earliest on-screen AI villains.

Starting about the year 2000, ‘Photoshop’ stopped being just the name of software and started being used as a verb, meaning to digitally alter a photograph. Sometimes the result is obvious, and sometimes it is so subtle that debates go on for weeks or longer as to the authenticity of a photo.
